Stomp for orchestra (1990)
Commissioned by Concordia. Premiere, 8 November 1990, Alice Tully Hall. Marin Alsop, conductor. Recorded by the Baltimore Symphony, David Zinman, cond. for Argo. Published by MMB. 8’.
Comment: Marin Alsop conducted Scenes from Adolescence at Tanglewood in 1988 and later asked me for a short orchestral piece for Concordia; it has since been played by many orchestras including the LA Philharmonic who took it to high schools to demonstrate that classical music could be really loud. I was very honored when Maestro Zinman included it on his Dance Mix concert (and recording) with the Baltimore Symphony.
